Fun Fall Wedding at The Mackey House

They say you can learn a lot about someone, just from the music they listen to. If that’s true then a wedding playlist says quite a bit about a couple and their guests. So, what do you think a trio of songs by The Four Seasons, Bruce Springsteen, and Bon Jovi says about Kaycee and Louis? For starters they’re from New Jersey and second they love to sing.

Kaycee and Louis’s wedding day was gorgeous. The weather finally felt like fall, which I’m sure made them feel right at home. They chose to have a first look, so we could get all of the photos done while there was plenty of light before the ceremony.

As they exchanged vows the glow from the setting sun spilled through the trees creating a background right out of a Bob Ross painting. Following the “I dos” the party moved to the pavillion for the cocktail hour and then up to the deck for the remainder of the festivities.

Kaycee and Louis were surrounded by family and friends as they danced and sang the night away.

Savannah Davenport House and Vic's on the River Wedding

Kendall was awake and at the starting line for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah half marathon before the sun even came up. Her dad was in the wave of runners ahead of her, but that didn’t last long. She passed him as she cruised to a second place finish in her age division. For most, that would be cause for celebration, but Kendall already had something way more important to celebrate.

Last year Kendall and Michael were married during an intimate ceremony and now it was time to celebrate their love with family and friends. A Leopold’s Ice Cream cart greeted guests as they arrived at the historic Davenport House. Kendall and Michael renewed their vows during a heartfelt ceremony in the garden before heading over to Vic’s on the River to celebrate.

Wedding Traditions

My family loves Halloween! Of course, what 5 year old doesn’t enjoy putting on a superhero costume and collecting handfuls of candy? My wife loves prepping for Halloween- she stocks up on candy and gets great joy handing it all out to trick-or-treaters. Me? I love horror movies. It’s pretty much a must for me to watch the classic Halloween movie on Halloween. It’s the one day when it’s ok to pretend to be someone else as you stuff yourself with candy.

Isn’t it funny how we come to celebrate or hold on to certain traditions. Halloween for instance is largely based on the Celtic Pagan celebration of Samhain, where they would dress in costume and give out treats to ward off and appease spirits.

This got me thinking about weddings and some of the many traditions that we still cling to today.

Mighty Eighth Museum Wedding

Couples select a venue for lots of different reasons, such as location, beauty, or cost. Candi and Mike chose the National Museum of the Mighty Eight Air Force for a much deeper reason. Not only was Mike a pilot in the military, but Candi’s dad flew a P-51 Mustang in the Mighty Eighth Air Force during WWII. So what better place for Candi and Mike’s love story to move into a new chapter than at the museum honoring those that served in the Mighty Eighth.

Candi and Mike dated and even attended prom together before life took them on separate journeys. Now having reunited, their love story picked up where it left off. Candi and Mike chose to have a “first look”, which worked out perfectly, and allowed us to capture some beautiful photos in the garden before afternoon showers popped up. We were also able to capture a photo with a P-51 in the background to honor Candi’s dad.

Until Death or Zombies Do We Part

“Until death or zombies do we part.” Any couple that sneaks zombies into their vows is my kinda couple. Kim and Quinn chose The Barn at Red Gate Farms for their Savannah destination wedding. Kim and Quinn were all smiles from the second their eyes met as she emerged from the barn. The couple’s friend, Gary, did a great job officiating and I don’t think they stopped smiling for the remainder of the day.

After photos on the grounds surrounding the barn, DJ Brad Tatom fired up the music and kept the party going into the night.

Congratulations Kim and Quinn! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your beautiful day.
