Sickness is Not a Wedding Favor

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. I stared off out the window as I enjoyed the first sips of my morning coffee. I couldn’t help but think of how beautiful a day it was and the session that I was supposed to be having at that very moment.

Unfortunately it feels like I’m getting way too used to cancelations and postponements. This time was different though. You see, I had just received an email the day before letting me know that the couple wouldn’t be able to make it to the session because the groom-to-be had just tested positive for COVID-19.

The coronavirus has upended a lot of plans this spring, but that was my first cancellation directly related to someone having the virus. It really made me stop and think. What if I’d received that notification after the session? We do everything we can to be as safe as possible by sticking with outdoor sessions and using long lenses in order to keep our distance, but still, it made it all so real.

I Love My Job

I love wedding photography! That may seem like a no brainer coming from a wedding photographer, but believe me it’s not. I was at a photography conference in January and three different presenters mentioned during their talks how much they hated weddings. I mean we’re talking about world traveling wedding photographers who actually despise weddings. That’s insane!

I can’t imagine investing so much time into a day and not even enjoying it. Now I know they would probably say that they enjoy being with the people or documenting the party, but the fact that they don’t like the actual wedding day makes me wonder. For example, would I want to buy a cake from a baker who hated baking? Or read a book by a writer who hated writing? When a profession becomes more stressful than fulfilling, it’s easy to lose that passion for what you do. I’m happy to say that I’m truly passionate about what I do, and I’m so thankful for that.

Preserving Memories

Spencer sat on the couch with the big book overflowing from his little lap. A wide grin covered his face as he flipped the pages. He was about two at the time and this wasn’t a Dr. Seuss or Pete the Cat book that had his full attention, it was Mommy and Daddy’s wedding album.

You probably recognize this story because it isn’t just our story. This one goes way back for generations. You probably remember looking through your parents or grandparents wedding album when you were a kid. A wedding album isn’t just another book. It’s special. It’s a part of your heritage, your family history.

St. James and Knights of Columbus Wedding

Ryan took a deep breath as the doors to the sanctuary opened and he got his first view of Ashley in her wedding dress. She seemed to float as her dad walked her down the aisle. She paused as she neared her groom and shared a moment with her mom.

Bubbles filled the air and Ryan pumped his fist as the newly weds shared a kiss outside the church. After months of planning and maybe a little stress, it was finally time to celebrate.
