Avoiding Awkward Family Photos

This past Sunday was Father’s Day and if your social media feed looked like mine, it was filled with tributes to dads. I have to admit that a few years ago, seeing those posts about “Dear Ole’ Dad” would have ruined my day. When you don’t have a relationship with your father it’s easy to feel sorry for yourself and be angry. That’s how I felt anyway.

A Disney Vacation is Like a Wedding

We just returned from a 5 day visit to the “happiest place on earth.” Waking up early, riding in a cramped bus, and waiting for the rope drop to open the park can make even the most excited of 5 year olds a bit grumpy.

Add in the crowds of sweaty bodies bumping into one another as you attempt to navigate through scooter chairs and strollers without losing a toe and we all become a bit agitated. Especially when our 5 year old somehow manages to lose his shoe in a river at Animal Kingdom.

What I realized during our days in the parks was that a Disney vacation is just like a wedding.

Gorgeous Ships of the Sea Museum Wedding

I was doing my best to remain inconspicuous as I hid behind the jetty on Tybee Island’s north beach. I had a time and a photo of who I was looking for, but the waiting is always a little nerve wracking and exciting. I spotted them walking down the beach. They stopped just over the rocks from where I was and that’s when Adam got down on bended knee and asked Heather to marry him. This past weekend Heather and Adam said “I do” during a beautiful ceremony in the garden at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.

Spring Wedding at The Mackey House

When planning a destination wedding most  couples put a lot of emphasis on their guests having a great time. If that’s any indication of a successful wedding then Nicole and Cullen’s Savannah wedding at the Mackey House was a blast! Nicole and Cullen chose to have a first look so they would be able to join in on the cocktail hour. After some beautiful and fun photos around the grounds it was time for the ceremony. Rev. Joe Wadas did an amazing job as always as big smiles stretched across Nicole and Cullen’s faces throughout the ceremony.

Spring Harper Fowlkes House Wedding

Savannah offers so many amazing venues for weddings. Some of my favorites are the historic sites including houses, such as the Harper Fowlkes. Its garden is beautiful and was the perfect location for Haley and Chris’s Savannah wedding. After getting ready at The Desoto they chose to have a First Look and read special vows to one another before the ceremony. Once they finished they stored them away in a wine box, which they will open together to celebrate their first anniversary.

Spring is such a beautiful time in Savannah. As you move through the season different flowers blooming and all kinds of fragrances fill the air. One of my favorite is Confederate Jasmine, which is currently in bloom and makes for one of my favorite backdrops. Following their ceremony everyone made their way over to Soho South Café for the reception.

Congratulations to Haley and Chris! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day.
