Some of my favorite photographers are storytellers- they are able to capture fleeting moments that last a lifetime, and occasionally change the world. After a 14 year career at a newspaper and hundreds of front page photos, I realized I wasn’t going to change the world on a massive scale, but I could step back from journalism and change lives by the way I capture special memories in photos. As a photojournalist, I covered many major events and famous people, including presidents, but today, I’ve never been happier than time spent with a couple on their wedding day, sharing in that special once-in-a-lifetime moment.
I am proud to say that photography and art is my love, my calling. After meeting my muse, the lovely Rebecca, I began to take on more weddings and engagement sessions. Falling in love allowed me to open my eyes and experience the love of others through my lens in an all new way. A month before our son was born, I left the newspaper to spend more time with my family, and to focus on growing Photos by Rich Burkhart.
More than half of my life has been dedicated to studying the art of photography. I have a Masters of Fine Arts in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and in the years since my graduation, I have grown in my abilities to tell life stories. My style of shooting is artistic/photojournalistic, meaning that I find moments as they happen, and also give direction in posing. Clients describe my work as vibrant and crisp. I take great pride in each and every image, beauty-toning and editing all final images, which you will receive within days of your session or special event.
